Capcom has announced Street Fighter X Tekken, a clash of two titans in the fighting game genre. The title will be developed using the same technology behind Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV and will include characters from the rosters of both franchises, allowing Ken to fight Kazuya Mishima or Chun-Li to take-on Nina Williams.

The Tekken fighters that will make the transition will be re-imagined in the signature aesthetic of the new Street Fighter games, but will retain their characteristics and unique moves. Furthermore, Street Fighter X Tekken will keep the 2D gameplay with 3D character models and backgrounds from the critically acclaimed Street Fighter IV. The Versus and Training Modes will be expanded to ease new players in and to allow veterans to go even more in depth with their favorite characters.

A Tag Team mode that has players selecting two fighters to help each other during a fight and perform special combos together has also been announced by Capcom. Yoshinori Ono, the producer of the Street Fighter series said that, “This is history we're making. Two fighting games that have rivaled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn't just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I'm going to give it my all.”

The game was revealed during a Comic Con panel held by the two authors of the Street Fighter and Tekken series. According to Famitsu, translated by Andriasang, a Tekken X Street Fighter title is being developed by Namco Bandai. The two teams are not sharing any assets and Street Fighter X Tekken is set to arrive two years from now on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, while the other title will come out at an even later date.
