After an early announcement made by mistake last week, Capcom officially confirms that Street Fighter V, the next iteration in its long running fighting game franchise, is coming to the PC and PS4, and it has even revealed a gameplay video, a few screenshots, and the fact that Ultra Street Fighter IV will launch on the PS4 in the future.

The Street Fighter series has been around for decades, first taking over arcades and then transitioning to consoles and computers, as Capcom began to flesh out each new installment through expansions and full-fledged add-ons.

Street Fighter IV was no exception, as it received its final revision, Ultra Street Fighter IV, earlier this year for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Now, Capcom confirms that it's teamed up with Sony to bring the game to the PS4 platform.

Street Fighter V is coming to PC and PS4

However, the main announcement concerns Street Fighter V, the next major entry in the series, which is coming to the PS4 and PC, thanks to a strategic partnership between Capcom and Sony. What's more, it will boast cross-platform play, meaning that Street Fighter fans on PC can fight with those on PS4 and vice versa without any complications.

"Throughout all of our discussions with Sony Computer Entertainment, it is clear that we share a mutual belief that the fighting genre has a huge opportunity for growth," says Matt Dahlgren, Capcom’s associate director of brand marketing and eSports. "The announcement today is just the first step, of many, in creating the next generation Street Fighter experience our fans have been asking for."

The first gameplay video and screenshots show great visuals

Besides confirming what has already been leaked, Capcom has also showcased an official gameplay video with Street Fighter V in action. As you can see in the footage below, the game is looking really impressive and boasts much better visuals than its predecessors.

The screenshots, available in the gallery below, also depict some of the most iconic characters in the franchise, from Ryu, who is also shown on the cover above, to Chun Li. You can expect plenty of other fighters to be confirmed for the new game in the future.

The first live gameplay demonstration of Street Fighter V is going to take place this weekend at the Capcom Cup grand finals tournament, on December 13 in San Francisco.

Expect to hear much more about the game at the special event, as Capcom always brings plenty of info about its projects at such tournaments, in order to better communicate with the community.
