Street Fighter V has an overhauled battle system, and in a brand new gameplay video, developer and publisher Capcom shows off just how these new mechanics help change the flow of combat in the upcoming fighting experience.

Street Fighter V was revealed to the world some time ago as a PC and PS4 fighting game that's going to enhance the pretty solid Street Fighter IV, which reigned supreme on last-generation consoles and PC.

Already some screenshots and a few gameplay videos were available, depicting the improved visuals and the smoother combat mechanics.

Street Fighter V has a variable battle system

After releasing a big set of screenshots earlier today, Capcom now brings forth a fresh gameplay video in which it goes in depth about the upcoming revamped battle system in Street Fighter V, and how it changes things through the variable V system.

More specifically, each character has three mechanics, in the form of V-Skill, V-Trigger, and V-Reversal.

V-Skill moves are unique per character and can be deployed at any time by pressing medium punch & kick together. They don't burn your V-Gauge and are varied depending on the character, such as helping him or her move around, go on the offense or the defense.

The V-Trigger abilities are also unique per character but can only be deployed when your V-Gauge is full by pressing heavy punch & kick together. These are similar to Ultras in Street Fighter IV and can turn the tide of battle, although player skill is still important.

V-Reversal moves take a segment of the V-Gauge and allow players to counter the attack of an opponent while blocking. They're similar to Alpha counters in the old Street Fighter Alpha series, but their effects are varied, as they can push enemies back, knock them down, or switch sides.

Last but not least, the EX Gauge builds as you deal damage and allows characters to perform more powerful special attacks. When it's maxed out, they can unleash their Critical Art, a "highly damaging, cinematic attack" that's unique to each character.

You can check out all these new systems in the new gameplay video below, as well as the abilities of Ryu, Chun-Li, Nash, and M. Bison.
