Time Warner Cable is responding to demand coming from the iOS ecosystem by providing iPhone support in its TWC TV application, allowing subscribers to watch live TV, manage their DVR, and change channels on their set-top box using only their Apple smartphone.

“Now you can watch your favorite shows and control your TV on the iPad AND iPhone!” Time Warner is proud to announce via the app’s iTunes page.

Available at no additional cost to Time Warner Cable video subscribers that have a broadband connection, TWC TV features an interactive program guide (IPG) with up to 7 days of listings.

With it, you get to view detailed show descriptions and box art, as well as options to display “HD only” or “favorites only” by creating a favorite channel list.

There is a search function that does just what its name implies, for programming by title or episode name and filter results by genre, and a set-top box tuning feature that lets you tune compatible set-top boxes directly to the channel with a few taps.

DVR management lets you schedule one-time and series recordings, but take note that it only works with compatible DVRs directly from the IPG.

Time Warner asks customers to note that “while all of these channels are available on the TWC TV app, channels are only available if they are also distributed at the local system and subscribed to by a given customer.”

In addition to bringing all this goodness to iPhone owners, the new TWC TV 2.6.0 incorporates minor bug fixes that should make your experience even more worthwhile.

The app works with iPad, iPhone (3GS, 4 or 4S), iPod Touch (3rd or 4th generation) and requires iOS 4.3 or higher.

Service requirements include Time Warner Cable video package at the Standard (Expanded Basic) level or higher, and a home WiFi connection for live TV playback.
