Users can set 2- or 3-Mirror modes straight from Windows

Among the new features that Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8

client is set to bring along, we can count Storage Spaces, an option that was mentioned before, but never actually seen in action.

There is no video to show this feature in action at the moment either, but we do have some screenshots available to have a look at, courtesy of Chinese website PCBeta.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the new feature is meant to ensure that data is safer on the hard drive through fail-proofing it against crashes.

Of course, in order to benefit from it, users will need to have two hard drives inside the computer, and they will have to set 2-way Mirroring from the Fault Tolerance menu.

Provided that one of the two hard drives will fail, user’s data will remain accessible on the second drive, so the feature increases the reliability of the system.

Furthermore, users will be able to add a third hard drive inside their computer, and then select a 3-way Mirror option to ensure even more security of their files. If two drives fail, there will always be the third to keep data safe and accessible.

This is not something new for desktop computers, that’s for sure, yet it will be available straight from Windows, in a more clear and user-friendly manner.

Additionally, users will also be able to set the hard drive capacity that they want Storage Spaces to take.

Not to mention that they will enjoy easy management through assigning drive letters and naming Storage Spaces accordingly.

However, we might expect for the feature to expand well beyond what can be seen in the screenshots attached to this article.

Microsoft is expected to announce more on this in the coming weeks or months, as the company is gearing up for launching the beta flavor of the platform sometime in February next year, recent reports suggest.
