14 DAY TRIAL // The spam messages are sent from every corner of the world by millions of spammers trying to advertise their products. Usually, the spam messages contain advertising campaigns for all types of products, from medicines to watches, from penis enlargement tricks to bank accounts or credit cards. Although most of the Internet users are simply ignoring them, the unwanted messages are assaulting our inboxes without any efficient way of blocking them.
Security company Sophos released one of the most interesting reports concerning the spam activity, sustaining that US sends the biggest number of unwanted messages to e-mail addresses from all around the world. According to the report, the percentage of the relayed spam for United States is 19.8% while China is placed on the second position with 7.5%. The other countries are Poland, South Korea and Italy with 7.4%, 7.0% and 5.0%. Although the report shows us that United States is the most spamming country, the surprising element is represented by Russia, a country that was often involved in illegal Internet activities. Russia is placed on the 10th position with 3.0% followed by Taiwan with 2.5%.
According to another report issued by the security companies, numerous illegal activities were launched from Russia such as hacking attempts or Internet attacks. At that time, it was reported that hackers were selling any type of cracked software for about 3 euros.
The US stands out like a sore thumb in this dirty dozen. China, who until recently was an intimate rival to the US, dropped dramatically during the last quarter. Poland, on the other hand, has now gate-crashed the top three. "The fact that its population, and undoubtedly its number of computers, is much lower than the likes of Russia, India, China and the States, suggests that Polish users need to take a close look at the security holes on their computers," said Carole Theriault, senior security consultant at Sophos, according to the press release published by Sophos.
