Yahoo implemented several new goodies in the search engine

This time it's serious. Google is now challenged by the Sunnyvale super giant Yahoo with pretty amazing features which make its search engine extremely powerful. But let me describe the impressive update package rolled out by Yahoo today. First of all, Yahoo officially released the suggestions feature, codename Search Assist, as the best way to use more relevant search queries to find required information. Secondly, Yahoo implemented a brand new interface for the search page which is meant to improve the scanning process of the SERP in order to identify the useful results in a shorter time.

"In addition to Search Assist, you may have also noticed our new header and footer. While our users think it looks better (we do too), it's also focused on helping users get things done. We moved the search box to the left to align with the results so that we make it easier for you to scan the results and find what you're looking for," Tim Mayer, Yahoo! Search, announced the new improvement in a blog post published today.

In case you forgot, the Mountain View company Google also improved its search interface a few months ago so the competition seems to become more important with every minor update implemented in the technologies.

However, Google had an interesting evolution when it comes to the interface of the search engine page. Remember that special appearance implemented by Google into the image search function? Well, that was something which remained in the history because Google rolled out a new interface and, after a few days and numerous feedback messages sent by the users, it introduced the old appearance back.

The new Google search layout has the same goals as Yahoo's: to allow the users to find the information they requested in a shorter time and scan the pages faster than before.
