A very useful techno toy

We can definitely say "thumbs up" for the Steripen, a very nifty techno-toy introduced via our gadget-loving friends, CoolestGadgets. They somehow find the coolest gadgets around, but this time the Steripen was cooler than anything else, for them as well as for us. “What's with that Steri-o-something?” we're sure you're wondering like we did when we first saw it. Well, the Steripen is a sterilization pencil, so to speak. It looks more like and electric toothbrush whose head has been severed, but people decided it was only fair to call it a Steripen and not a Sterielectrictoothbrushwhoseheadhasbeensevered.

The Steripen is a tool for all those who are suspicious about any water other than the bottled one; yet it could prove quite useful when outdoors, especially in areas where water has a dubious quality.

OK, you should have figured it out by now... the Steripen has something to do with water. And it does: you would like to use it to kill all germs in your glass of water when drinking from a source you don't actually trust and you feel you're not into a very lucky or experimental mood. Just fill a glass with water, turn on the Steripen and stick the pen-ish side in the water. The tool comes with a UV lamp spreading around rays of ultraviolet light which kill micro-organisms in the said water on site, rendering it safe for human consumption.

The UV lamp comes with an eerie blueish glow which is quite cool. To be on the safe side, "the SteriPEN has been independently tested by four universities, which all found that it did indeed destroy 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.99% of viruses and 99.9% of protozoa." as Gaj-It declare. Therefore you can trust it, or test it, as you like. If you feel like knowing the names of the “dead”, here is a small list: E. coli, Salmonella Typhimurium, Poliovirus, Rotavirus, Klebsiella terrigena, Streptococcus faecalis, Bacillus subtilis, common yeast, Coliphage MS2, Giardia and Cryptosporidum.

A killing spree-session takes 48 seconds per glass and you can get your hands on the killing machine for around $155. And still, we think that Steripen is way better than Sterielectrictoothbrushwhoseheadhasbeensevered.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
