There are no sales like the Christmas sales, and nobody likes a price cut more than a gamer. Valve knows this, and knows this well, so it has decided that its Steam is going to turn this Christmas holiday into a huge shopping frenzy. The biggest digital distribution service has just kicked into special discount mode, and games are up for sale at some truly ridiculous prices.

If you're done getting a little something for everyone on your naughty-or-nice list and find yourself with some loose change and a few bucks left, don't be too hasty with them. While the Santa down the street collecting for charity might seem like an attractive place to throw a few crumpled dollars, then hold that thought and get something for yourself instead. The joys of this life are a sure deal compared to the potential salvation of your soul.

Steam has put up some amazing games for under $10 and a huge discount on others. The list below is crowned by games like Grand Theft Auto IV at $7.49, Mirror's Edge at $4.99, S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl at $1.99, Torchlight at $7.99 or The Void at $9.99. Developer packs have also received a hefty discount and Ubisoft has its entire game list down in price by 50 percent, 2K Games and Eidos dropped their titles down to 66 percent of their original price and the entire Unreal Deal pack got a 66-percent discount.

Some of these special deals won't last until the end of the holidays and are one-day offers, but the good news is that others will take their place tomorrow. Every day, Steam will have a few titles available with some outrageous price cuts even for the Season of Gift Giving. All games will go back to their original price on January 3, so waste no time looking for that special one you always wanted to get.
