Duke Nukem Forever is something of a mythical beast for the gaming industry, but with the help of Gearbox Software, the game might finally be launched next year, after almost 13 years of waiting, so you can guess that lots of people want to get their hands on the eventual demo.

Even though Gearbox confirmed that a demo will be released to everyone, lots of people want first access, before the rest of the gaming public.

That's why plenty of people will no doubt opt to get the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition, which will include a special code for first access to the future demo of Duke Nukem Forever.

But it seems that some existing Borderlands customers don't even need to purchase the new game, as those that bought it on Valve's Steam distribution platform have now received special codes in order to download the eventual demo when it will be released.

This started as a rumor at first, but it has been confirmed by Steam and Gearbox executives, saying that this is just a token of appreciation to all those PC users who opted to purchase the legitimate copy of Borderlands instead of just pirating it.

Steam Borderlands owners will find their Duke Nukem Forever code in the game's official section, under the CD Key information, which they will use when the time comes.

Sadly, a release date for the game's demo hasn't been announced, and it's pretty safe to say that it won't be until the end of the year or the beginning of 2011.

Duke Nukem Forever has been in development for quite some time at 3D Realms, eventually causing the developer's bankruptcy.

After that, Gearbox Software stepped in, and with the help of 2K Games, who was set to publish Duke Nukem Forever, picked up the pieces and confirmed a few months ago that it will release the game next year.

The demo will make or break Duke Nukem Forever, so it's nice to see that Gearbox is getting some good will with PC gamers through this Steam promotion.
