Microsoft's statistical language modeling methods will deliver new text-input user experiences to devices powered by text-input solutions from Beijing Komoxo Mobile Software. The Redmond company announced that it licensed its patents for statistical language modeling methods to Beijing Komoxo Mobile Software in order to evolve the China-based company's text-input engine. Komoxo's next-generation text-input engine, now featuring Microsoft's technology, will be featured on devices covering approximately 40 languages for markets around the world.

Horacio Gutierrez, vice president of Intellectual Property and Licensing at Microsoft, applauded the addition of another partner on the list of organizations already taking advantage of the company's IP licensing program "We are pleased that Komoxo has chosen the advanced text-input technologies developed at Microsoft Research to expand its offerings around the world. We believe this agreement is a shining example of our commitment to enhancing consumer experience through IP collaboration and an important step in working more collaboratively with companies in China to help develop a more vibrant IT industry."

"We're very excited about this new collaboration with Microsoft," said Howard Wu, Komoxo chairman. Komoxo's solutions are focused on devices with reduced keypads and touch-screens, providing multilingual comprehensive text technologies. Via Komoxo, Microsoft's own technology will end up in products from Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology, Haier Group, Hisense, Benephon, Mediatek, Spreadtrum Communications and Datang Mobile Communications Equipment. According to the Redmond company, the next-generation Komoxo text-input engine will enhance word recognition and recommendation capabilities as well as spell-check features.

"We realized that by approaching Microsoft and working directly with Microsoft Research, we could integrate matured and leading text-input technologies with our own innovations in next-generation text-input products. Along with the popularity of touch-screen and reduced keypad mobile devices, consumers around the world deserve one-hand text-input solutions for their own mother language. We believe this new relationship with Microsoft will create a best-in-class solution in the industry. Komoxo's third-generation text-input engine is designed for next-generation mobile terminals, which are adopting touch-screen and reduced keypad schemes now more than ever," Howard Wu added.
