The wife of a retired trooper from Pennsylvania has been gunned down by her husband on Thursday, March 28 in the Philipsburg area.

Mark A. Miscavish took his own life after fatally injuring his estranged spouse at the County Market grocery store in the Decatur Township Peebles Plaza.

According to Gant Daily, the 51-year-old man brought a shotgun to the market's office area and shot his wife who had filed for divorce.

Pennsylvania State Police spokesman Bruce Morris detailed that he committed suicide after firing an unspecified number of bullets at Traci Miscavish, at 10:05 a.m.

Centre Daily Times writes that he has previously threatened a murder suicide in January, being thrown in jail for assaulting his wife.

Two months before going through with the threats by approaching her at the grocery store where she worked, he pinned her down and reached for a gun in a bid to shoot her if she left him.

He reportedly became angry when she questioned him about the ingestion of two Prednisone tablets within a short amount of time, on January 23.

She believed that the incident was induced by alcohol consumption, which was a recurring issue in their marriage.

He held her on the ground and unsuccessfully tried to use tape to bind her hands together, while telling her that he would take her life because he had nothing to lose.

She escaped by tricking him into allowing her to leave the room and was able to go outside. He chased her to the yard and assaulted her, at which time a motorist pulled over to help her and called 911.

Miscavish was charged with criminal terroristic threats and assault and freed on $10,000 (€7,800) bail. Wife Traci was issued a restraining order that specified that he was not allowed near her workplace.
