Starhawk, the third-person shooter from Sony and Lightbox Interactive, will be primarily aimed at the multiplayer gaming crowd, but the game will also include a solid single-player mode for players who want to experience a new take on the genre.

Dylan Jobe, who is the president of Lightbox Interactive, has told the official PlayStation Blog that, “The shooter genre is packed with mega-juggernaut great games, but shooters are also due for a twist. In most single-player shooters, you play a linear experience: event, event, event, set piece, event, event, event, set piece.”

The developer says that Starhawk is clear when it comes to the kind of forces the player will face and gives the gamer clear options about how he can tackle them.

Jobe also offered some information on how the single player for Starhack will impact buyers, adding, “The campaign isn’t based on the multiplayer maps, either. This is a narrative-driven single-player experience, with unique maps and encounters all the way through the game. They range from small battles in the desert to huge space battles around capital ships to defending this huge space train to the epic confrontation with Logan — it’s quite diverse.”

The team is not yet ready to offer more details on what exactly players will be asked to do but says that those who just play the single-player aspect of the game will be satisfied with paying 60 dollars or Euros for it even if they have no plans of ever touching the multiplayer aspect.

The single-player element of Starhawk will star Emmett Graves, a man who became half Outcast after a mining incident and decides to become a mercenary in order to take advantage of his new condition.

Starhawk will be launched exclusively on the PlayStation 3 from Sony on May 8 in the United States and three days later in Europe.
