A executive at developer Blizzard has stated that the next chapter in the Starcraft 2 saga will not come earlier than 18 months from now, justifying the decision of his company not too talk about the Heart of the Swarm episode too much at the upcoming BlizzCon event.

Speaking at the GDC Online conference in Texas Craig Canessa, who is the project director working on the Battle.net service, has told the audience that his team was working hard on trading, replay broadcast and profile upgrades and that these will be “a main area of focus we’re going to be seeing on the Starcraft side over the next 18 months between now and Heart of the Swarm.”

Blizzard also talked to GameStop and said that it has no plans to show Heart of the Swarm to the fans coming to BlizzCon and that it is now focused on the launch of the Cataclysm expansion for World of Warcraft and on offering more information on the action role playing game Diablo III.

Wings of Liberty was launched in July of this year and went on to become one of the best seller of the summer, detailing the actions of Jim Raynor and his rag tag band of fighters as they try to dethrone the Emperor of humanity while also dealing with the resurgent Zerg assaults.

Heart of the Swarm will be focused on the insect like race and Blizzard has promised that the single player section of the game will get a while new hub section and that the Zerg themselves will be remade to keep things interesting.

A lot of fans have criticized Blizzard's decision to split Starcraft 2 into three different games, saying that there's a risk to see a repeat of the Half Life: Episode 3 situation from Valve.

The third episode in the Starcraft 2 story is called Legacy of the Void and will focus on the Protoss.

Considering the current schedule for Heart of the Swarm players can expect to experience the Protoss side of the story at some point in the summer of 2013.
