Developer Blizzard has released a demo version of its hit real-time strategy-title Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, available on both the PC and the Mac for all those who are interested in seeing how the game plays out.

The initial release of Starcraft 2 happened on July 27, 2010, which means that the demo is about 5 months too late to have a significant impact.

The demo does not require the player to have a Battle.net account to be played, but Blizzard does require all those who download it to provide a name, their age and a valid e-mail address in order to get access to the download link.

The demo version of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty includes the first three missions of the single player campaign, which focus on rebel Jim Raynor and his reunion with a long-lost friend which sets off a chain of events that will change the galaxy forever.

Because the demo does not include a Battle.net element, gamers who get it will not be able to try out the multiplayer side of Starcraft 2, which might have proven attractive to some and could have lead them to pick up the game.

It would have made sense for Blizzard to also deliver a multiplayer demo in order to cover all its bases and make sure that as many players as possible are exposed to the whole experience the developer delivers in its strategy game.

Starcraft 2 was very well received by the community, with an average score of more than 90 in most review and sales of more than 3 million in its first month.

At the moment, Blizzard has confirmed it is working on Heart of the Swarm, the first expansion for Starcraft 2, which is set to be focused on the Zerg race and will probably arrive at some point during 2012.

You can get the demo from Softpedia.
