Blizzard has just announced that the multiplayer regions in its StarCraft 2 real-time strategy title are set to be linked together, in order to allow players to be more evenly matched and get larger communities to form and play together.

StarCraft 2 was released last year and plenty of gamers have engaged both in its single-player narrative, in order to see just how things are shaping up for its universe, but also in its multiplayer mode, thanks to Blizzards Battle.net service, which grouped them up by regions and allowed the matchmaking service to accurately combine players with those on the same skill level.

Now, Blizzard has confirmed that many of the multiplayer regions in StarCraft 2 are going to be linked together, in order to create even larger communities.

"We're pleased to announce StarCraft II region linking, an exciting upcoming change that will connect a number of StarCraft II communities around the world for multiplayer matchmaking and communication purposes," Blizzard revealed.

"In conjunction with the start of Season 3, we’ll be linking the European and Russian StarCraft II communities together; North America and Latin America will also be linked together, as will Korea and Taiwan."

Blizzard says that the region linking will allow for a larger community of players to be matched together by its special service, for more even match-ups, while players are going to get access to a broader range of custom map games.

Players who had friends in other regions will be able to add them into their Battle.net friends lists, once the linking is activated later this month, during the week of July 25, according to Blizzard.

The company highlights that players shouldn't feel any sort of increase in latency or lag, as they'll still be linked to the same sort of data centers as before, so it won't be a huge problem if two players from each region are going to be matched up together in the game.
