The development team at BioWare working on the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic have announced that they plan to release the 1.2 update for the game during the month of April and offered some details on the new content and the updated game mechanics that will be introduced.

The new content includes the Lost Island Flashpoint, which picks up the story told in the Kaon Under Siege content from the 1.1 update, with players still trying to find out the source of the Rakghoul virus outbreak.

The new Operation is called Explosive Conflict and takes place in a new zone on the planet of Denova, in order to stop a number of mercenaries and traitors who are trying to sell baradium, a rare mineral which has the potential to create powerful bombs.

Eight or sixteen Imperial or Republic players will be able to join this Operation and will battle droids, mercenaries and creatures to secure the area and its resources.

The 1.2 patch for The Old Republic will also add the Novare Coast Warzone.

Alongside the new content players will also get Player versus Player Rankings and Guild Banks, improving the experience of playing the game and there are also improvements to the User Interface, designed to make it easier to use a player in combat.

BioWare also delivers a number of gameplay fixes and optimizations designed to make the good run better even on low-end PCs.

Star Wars: The Old Republic also gets a new Friends Trial system, allowing each subscriber to get as many as three fellow players in the MMO for seven days, allowing them to see what it has to offer.

Dr. Greg Zeschuk, who is the general manager of the MMO division at the BioWare Label inside Electronic Arts, stated, “Prior to release, our main priority for Star Wars: The Old Republic was to deliver a high quality game and service, right from day one.

“Now that we’ve achieved that, we have shifted our focus to adding more content to the game and improving and refining the experience for our fans. Legacy is our biggest update yet and a great example of the kind of content players can expect for the months and years ahead.”
