A brand new issue has started affecting various Star Wars: The Old Republic players when they first try to install the game, as the files that are downloaded by the game’s client are corrupted and thus send it into an endless downloading loop.

Star Wars: The Old Republic, the online role-playing game made by BioWare and published by EA and LucasArts last week, has had a pretty good launch, with one patch arriving yesterday to fix some of the issues that appeared since the official release.

Sadly, a pretty serious problem has now started affecting users from all around the world while they tried to perform the first installation of the game.

According to several threads on The Old Republic’s forums, via Destructoid, once the install procedure starts and the game client begins downloading extra files not found on the retail DVD, things go awry.

More specifically, once the Assets 21 stage of the install process begins, the game starts downloading 16GB worth of files, and then throws an error message that sees the process restart and once again break down after the massive download reaches its end.

This serious glitch has even caused some players to get into problems with their internet service providers, needing to pay extra money because they went over their data transfer limit.

BioWare has acknowledged this issue, saying that some of its servers have been sending corrupt data to users who are installing the game. Sadly, the studio has yet to offer an actual estimate on when this problem will be solved and players can have a problem-free installation process.

Until then, it seems that players will have to sit idly while others enjoy their online adventures in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Have you encountered such a problem or did your experience with the game go off without a hitch?
