The title won't use Battlefield mechanics

Star Wars Battlefront, the upcoming shooter coming from DICE and Electronic Arts, ditches the Squad system employed in the Battlefield games for a Partners system, and avoids space battles so that players are focused on the infantry side of the conflict.

Star Wars Battlefront is the highly awaited reboot of the classic shooter series set in the prestigious sci-fi franchise originally envisioned by George Lucas with his different movies. The Battlefront sub-series already delighted fans back in the 2000s thanks to the games made by Pandemic, and currently the DICE studio is working on the next iteration.

After we heard quite a few different gameplay details last month, fresh information has appeared about specific mechanics.

Battlefront ditches Squads for Partners and eliminates classes

First up, via GamesRadar, DICE confirms that Star Wars Battlefront won't use the Squads system implemented by the studio in its Battlefield franchise. Instead, a new system called Partners is introduced.

It partners up two players and allows them to spawn on each other's location but also to share the items they've unlocked. The partners will be able to see each other on their heads-up displays for added cooperation.

The studio also adds that there aren't any classes in Battlefront, so players can freely choose their weapons and gear, provided they've unlocked them by gathering experience.

No space battles due to infantry focus

After hearing complaints from fans about the lack of space battles in the new Star Wars Battlefront, DICE mentions, via PSU, that this decision was made in order to promote the focus on infantry warfare for the new game.

The new title allows for aerial combat only in the atmosphere of a planet, just like in the Battlefield games. If space battles were to be added, players would be distracted from the fighting on the ground, leading to a poorer experience for those that weren't in the actual ships.

You can expect to hear quite a bit more about Star Wars Battlefront in the near future, as we get closer to its November debut on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
