14 DAY TRIAL // Video game developer Disruptor Beam, which is best known for its work on Game of Thrones: Ascent, announces that it is working on a video game experience called Star Trek: Timelines, which will allow gamers to become a starship captain and explore all the lore associated with the science fiction universe.
Apparently, the new title will be offered on web-based platforms and on mobile devices and is at the moment in the early development stages, which means that the team does not have any details on the services through which it will be offered or the potential launch windows.
Star Trek: Timelines is a story-driven social game that will be focused on the starship and the crew that each captain will be able to recruit and then lead through a series of missions based on the extensive universe of the series.
Content and characters taken from Star Trek: The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise will be included, although it’s not clear whether the players will be able to directly influence the major storylines of the various continuities.
Disruptor Beam says that it will allow gamers to meet franchise icons like Captain Kirk, Spock, Captain Picard and Data and that a wide range of planets and galaxies will be included.
All the well-known alien races of Star Trek will be featured at certain points, with their tech, culture, political systems and rivalries.
All the art and the 3D graphics will be created by the development team and will offer a unique modern take on classic elements from the television franchise.
Jon Radoff, the chief executive officer of the studio, tells Gamespot, “I grew up watching the franchise and have always felt that the best episodes were those that went beyond the coolness of the technology or vastness of space; the ones which told the story of characters making important decisions that had an impact on others, on civilizations, planets, and technology.”
He adds, “Star Trek Timelines will encompass all of these concepts, allowing you to explore the vastness of space along with your friends - letting you live out the 'where no man has gone before' mantra we all love - but will also allow you to make decisions that impact your future, your friends and even the fate of the Galaxy.”
Game of Thrones: Ascent will remain the core focus for Disruptor Beam in the coming months, especially given the fact that the fourth season of the TV show is now running on HBO.
