The development team at Digital Extremes and publisher Namco Bandai are revealing two more Vulcan characters that will be part of the cast of the upcoming Star Trek title, named T’Mar and Surok.

The pair will apparently play a key role in the story of the video game and will interact constantly with both Captain Kirk and First Officer Spock.

T’Mar is a female Vulcan who has childhood ties with Spock, who meets her on a mysterious space station that is under attack.

Brian Miller, the executive producer working on Star Trek, is quoted by VG247 as saying, “Her blend of incredible intelligence and unexpected beauty prove intriguing to Kirk.”

T’Mar leads the two main characters to New Vulcan, the place where the race aims to start over after their home planet was destroyed, and there, players will first interact with another new character, a political leader called Surok.

Miller adds, “When we crafted this story we wanted to make sure the player realizes that the usually logical, Spock can have very emotional connections to the ones he cares about. Surok was one of Spock’s childhood mentors and is also T’Mar’s father.”

Surok has dealt with the Gorn before and his knowledge and political power become important as Kirk and Spock work together with the Vulcans to end this new threat to the Federation.

Star Trek is a cooperative game, with players encouraged to get a friend and play both characters at once, mixing powers and abilities in order to explore a number of locations and battle fierce enemy Gorn.

The game is designed to use the rebooted movie universe, but it’s unclear what links its events have with the new Into Darkness.

Star Trek is set to launch on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 on April 23 in North America and April 26 in Europe.
