More Klingon power

Star Trek Online has just received its first significant content update with the Season One: Common Ground package and, just a few months after the official launch of the MMO, Cryptic is looking forward to a Season 2 and a Season 3 that they plan to have out this year, although the exact content that will be added is not yet set in stone.

The developers list several priorities for the future: to deliver more episodic content that will offer a compelling narrative for those playing the Klingon side; to build more elaborate story arcs for all the players involved and to create a new mechanism for the death penalty.

The people working on Star Trek Online at Cryptic are also thinking of how to go about creating interesting end game content. It seems that the first point to be addressed will be the death penalty, with several changes coming to a public test server as soon as May.

Craig Zinkievich, who is the executive producer of Star Trek Online, talked to 1UP, revealing that “what's in store is a moving target, since we're doing our best to engage our community to determine what they'd like to see and when they'd like to see it. That collaborative effort has been exceptionally helpful to us thus far.” Apparently, the biggest challenge is creating content for high level players that does not break the technical part of the MMO.

While development progresses on Star Trek Online, players can enjoy Season One: Common Ground, which introduces special war game maps that allow Federation players to fight one another, a new ship type that can be used by Klingons and fresh options linked to customization. While doing this, they can also dream about how their starships look on the inside, with Cryptic actually promising that the MMO will allow full starship exploration at some point in its development.
