Samsung has been rumored recently to plan the launch of more dust and waterproof high-end smartphones, and it appears that the standard Galaxy S5 version will be among the first to receive this treatment.

We’ve already learned that Samsung was planning the launch of a rugged Galaxy S5 version, similar to the Galaxy S4 Active, but it seems that the standard flavor of the phone will also be dust and waterproof.

The info comes from a recent article on zdnet.co.kr, which also notes that the smartphone is expected to become official next week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

“For the previously released Galaxy S4, water-proof and dust-proof capabilities were adapted to the handset’s variants. But for the Galaxy S5, the standard model will have them immediately,” a source with knowledge on the matter reportedly said.

At the same time, the handset is said to arrive on shelves with fingerprint scanning technology packed inside, and it might adopt Validity’s chips for this.

The fingerprint sensor is said to be included in the phone’s home button, which will also feature ultra violet coating. To unlock the device, users will have to swipe the button.

According to the news site, despite being announced at MWC, Galaxy S5 might not arrive on the market before the end of March.

It seems that Samsung hasn’t placed orders for a series of components as of now, though it could make the move in late February or early March.

If so, it would be able to start shipping the device in late March, the report continues. However, no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

“Since Samsung is yet to place an order for parts, the company may change some of the peripheral features of the Galaxy S5 while retaining core features,” a rep from a local parts supplier said.

Earlier today, we learned that Samsung might be planning on launching the upcoming device cheaper on contract than its predecessors. All on the matter should be unveiled as soon as the next week, so stay tuned.
