Mezmer Games, a subdivision of Paradox Interactive, is announcing that its debut title, Stalin vs. Martians, is set to be released world wide to gamers on April 20. The title has been developed by three studios, Black Wing Foundation, Dreamlore and N-Game, and should be offered through digital distribution services, like Paradox's own GamersGate and others.

Stalin vs. Martians is a weird beast. The game bills itself as a real time strategy that plays fast and loose, with the two sides being completely different. The Russian side, led by the fierce leader Stalin, seems to be built up as a regular army, which focuses on tanks and other military hardware. The Martians are more powerful individually but will field fewer units in each battle. The game is fast and one of the main ideas is to make the whole strategy experience fun, as well as engaging and challenging. You can take a look at the most recent trailer for Stalin vs. Martians at the end of this article.

Black Wing Foundation, Dreamlore and N-Game are all companies based in the Russian space, in Ukraine and in Moscow. Stalin vs. Martians is mostly a showpiece of how developers from the Eastern Europe are approaching game development, and allows players to see the potential of their ideas.

Stalin vs. Martians is a great first title for Mezmer Games. As Paradox puts it, “As box retail is becoming increasingly expensive, sluggish, and non-eco-friendly, we help indie developers reach a large audience through download distribution.” It's good to see that a publisher is really looking to the indie community to offer interesting ideas for videogames. Let's see how the game does when it is released.
