Video game developer Square Enix has announced that during the second fiscal quarter of this year it has managed to generate sales of 47.516 billion Yen (about 735 million dollars or 533 million Euro), which is a decrease of about 15 percent when compared to the same period of last year.

For the same time period profits have gone up by 115%, reaching 3,704 billion Yen (47 million dollars or 33 million Euro) mainly because of the launch of the excellent Deus Ex: Human Revolution, developer by Eidos Montreal, but also linked to the social network, smartphone and web based sales.

Apart from Deus Ex, which managed sales close to 2.2 million units all over the world since launch, another good performer for Square Enix was Dungeon Siege III, from Obsidian, which managed to move 820,000 copies overall, with 320,000 linked to the North America market, 480,000 sold in Europe and 20,000 moved to Japan.

Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Edition managed to generate sales of 350,000 units.

The Chief Executive Officer of Square Enix, Yoichi Wada, has stated that at the moment his company is going through a period of rebuilding and will generate both more revenue and more profit during the fiscal year that ends on March 31, 2013 and starts next year.

He says that at the moment there are 10 major intellectual properties in various stages of development, although its not clear whether the company is creating entirely new game universes or also plans to use some old ones.

We already know that Eidos Montreal is working on a fourth game in the Thief series and the signs also point to a follow up for Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

In the last few years Square Enix has made a point of expanding to the West and trying to create titles that appeal to audience in Europe and North America.
