After hackers managed to breach their member community portal last week, Square Enix representatives came forward with a statement to reassure their customers that no personal information ended up in the hands of hackers.

When the breach was first discovered, the community website was taken offline since there was a suspicion that gamers from both the United States and Japan might have been affected.

“As a result of our continuing investigation, we have now confirmed that the database in which we store personal information was NOT accessed during the recent server intrusion. Therefore, your personal information was NOT compromised by an unknown third party,” reads the recently released statement.

“Square Enix is planning to restart the SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS service by the end of December. Details of the schedule will be announced at a later date.”

Judging by the large number of cybercriminal operations that targeted and still target gaming communities, we can only expect that 2012 will be no different, especially since game accounts began storing financial information.
