The smog in several cities is so thick cameras can no longer record anything

Air pollution is no laughing matter. Still, I cannot help but be slightly amused by the news that, thanks to the smog hovering over several of the country's cities, the Chinese government can no longer spy on people quite as effectively as it did in the past.

Grist reports that, presently, some 20 million cameras intended to help authorities keep tabs on people are up and running in China.

The problem is that, although they have no issues seeing through fog and smoke, these cameras are utterly unable to penetrate the thick smog that has taken over China.

The same source tells us that, as surprising as this may sound, the Chinese government's reaction to this problem was to hire a bunch of scientists and ask them to teach the cameras ignore the smog and focus on the people instead.
