The researchers explain that, when people get hangovers, it is not the alcohol itself that must be blamed for the nausea, vomiting and headaches they experience.
On the contrary, all these symptoms appear to be caused by a byproduct of metabolized alcohol, i.e. acetaldehyde.
Apparently, compounds in Sprite speed up the process of breaking down alcohol, hence the fact that the body is not exposed to as much acetaldehyde as it normally would be, Daily Mail tells us.
This in turn translates into the fact that hangover symptoms disappear faster, and people start feeling better sooner than they would should the body be allowed to metabolize alcohol at its natural pace.
