Mobile phone users in the United States interested in the purchase of a Nexus S 4G smartphone from wireless carrier Sprint can now take advantage of a special offer that Amazon and Best buy have put in place for it.

The handset is now available of free via Best Buy and for only $0.01 at Amazon, with the signing of a contract agreement, of course.

The offer was put in place only several days after Sprint themselves cut the price tag for this device to only $99 on contract.

Users interested in the offering should head over to Amazon's website here to purchase the Nexus S 4G, or here at Best Buy.

The smartphone comes with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS on board, and sports a large 4-inch touchscreen display, along with a fast 1GHz application processor.

With the Nexus S 4G, users will be able to access a wide range of Mobile Google Services while on the go, as well as to applications available for download via the Android Market.

“Get the ultimate Google experience at 4G speeds with the Nexus S 4G for Sprint, which pairs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor and integrated Google Voice capabilities,” Amazon notes.

“A thin-profile contour display gives the Nexus S a unique slim and trim size that fits easily in the palm of your hand, and its brighter, high-contrast screen means colors are incredibly vibrant and text is crisp at any size--even when viewed in bright sunlight.”

The smartphone also comes with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot capabilities, MicroUSB port, 3.5mm headphone jack.

It also includes a 5-megapixel rear camera with support for HD video recording, as well as a front facing camera for video calling. It was packed with 16 GB of internal memory, which cannot be expanded through the use of memory cards.

“The Nexus S 4G runs the Android 2.3 platform (dubbed "Gingerbread")--the fastest version of Android available for smartphones yet. It features a cleaner, more refined interface with new icons, improved top notification bar, and more intuitive navigation,” Amazon notes.

“Multitasking in Gingerbread allows you the ability to run more than one app at a time. If you're playing a game, you can easily switch to an incoming email and then switch back to the game without losing your place.”
