Wireless carrier Sprint has finally started shipping the new HTC EVO 4G LTE smartphone to its customers, after a delay caused by the device being held at customs.

The company has sent out shipping notices to its users, and some of them are reporting that the device has already arrived in their hands.

The handset can be seen on Sprint’s website with a price tag of $199.99 (160 Euro) attached to it, but it is listed only as coming soon, most probably due to the aforementioned delay.

Running under Google’s Android operating system, the new device features a large 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 touchscreen display that can deliver a 720 x 1280 pixels resolution, and it is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon 1.5 GHz Krait processor.

One of the most appealing features of the chipset is the fact that it can offer simultaneous voice calling and 3G data on Sprint’s CDMA voice and EV-DO data services, Good and Evo reports.

This is a feature common to handsets on GSM devices, but it is not present on phones connected to CDMA networks, at least not until now. Sprint’s new EVO 4G LTE has it, and the same applies to the recently launched LG Optimus Elite, and to the LG Viper 4G LTE.

In addition to these features, HTC EVO 4G LTE also arrives at Sprint with 1 GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Additionally, it sports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth, LTE and CDMA capabilities, Wi-Fi hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, GPS receiver, and the whole range of sensors.

On the back, the new device sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper, with support for HD video recording, complemented by a 1.3 camera on the front, with support for video calling.

The smartphone is powered by Google’s Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and it features HTC’s Sense UI on top.
