Owners of the Samsung ATIV S Neo smartphone on the network of wireless carrier Sprint in the United States are currently being served a new software update, which will bring the firmware on their devices up to version 2216.14.01.2.

Sprint has already announced on its support website that the new software version is available for download, while also unveiling that Windows Phone 8 Update 3 (aka General Distribution Release 3 or GDR3) will be part of it.

At the same time, the new platform version comes with a fix for SIM contact notification in the people app, the release notes unveil. A customer issue with the camera was resolved in the new update as well, as part of a special software build.

Sprint further mentions that the update will arrive on devices in stages, and that some users might not receive it immediately. However, all devices might be upgraded to the new firmware release in a matter of days, the wireless carrier goes on to say.

“If prompted that an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation,” Sprint notes on the aforementioned support website.

The update should leave user files unharmed, though it would be a great idea to back up all data on the phone, just to make sure that nothing is lost in the process.

Moreover, Samsung ATIV S Neo users should check that the battery inside their devices has been charged at least at 50 percent, to ensure a smooth update experience.

Users will receive a notification when the update is available for their handsets, but they can also perform manual checks to see whether it has arrived or not. For that, they will have to head over to Settings > Phone update and hit the Check for updates button, as WPcentral notes.

Previously, the Samsung ATIV S Neo on Sprint was running under software version 2216.13.07.6, which was in fact the initial firmware available for the device.
