It's a thin line between bliss and despair, and LG Optimus S owners can now confirm it, as Sprint has just announced that the Gingerbread update has been temporarily suspended due to numerous bugs reported.

It appears that LG and Sprint are now investigating all the issues reported by users who download and installed the LG Optimus S update to Gingerbread.

Although some of these bugs are only experience by some users, it appears that most of most of these issues are critical and can render the smartphone useless after a while.

The carrier already came up with several workarounds for these problems, but some of them are more radical and involves a visit to the nearest service center in order to exchange the device.

The most common issues reported by LG Optimus S owners who upgraded to Gingerbread include:

- Device no longer charging; - No access to data services; - SD card un-mounted or removed message; - Device not recognized by Windows; - Predictive text no longer works (keyboard). Those unfortunate enough to experience the first issue will notice that the Optimus S will not charge when plugged into a computer via USB or the charger.

The only workaround to this problem is to try and charge the device with a wall charger while the device is powered off, but if this will not work, users will need to contact the nearest Sprint service center for a possible exchange.

According to Sprint, Optimus S users who do not have access to data services after installing the update should type ##72786# (##SCRTN#) and the device's MSL, using the dial pad. Those who do not know their MSL are advised to contact Sprint for assistance.

Workarounds for the rest of the issue encountered by Optimus S owners are provided by Sprint on its official support forum.

It is also worth mentioning that in addition to the temporary workarounds offered by the carrier, users should also factory reset their LG Optimus S devices.
