Mobile phone carrier Sprint has just announced the signing of new 4G roaming agreements with carriers in two markets, namely Digicel in Jamaica and Global Mobile in Taiwan.

Through the new deal, the carrier's customers traveling abroad in one of these markets would have the possibility to us their 4G devices on the airwaves of the said operators.

According to Sprint, select devices come with the Sprint SmartView Connection Manager, which was set up to automatically detect the Digicel and Global Mobile networks, so that users can benefit from connectivity when traveling through Jamaica or Taiwan.

Users would have at their disposal an unlimited 24 hour Daypass, the carrier announced, adding that specific info on pricing would be unveiled at a later time.

“With these agreements, Sprint is kicking down the door to 4G international roaming and taking a first step toward allowing people to enjoy 4G service wherever they are around the globe,” said Matt Carter, president-Sprint 4G.

“We’ve taken the 4G leadership position in the U.S. and are now proud to partner with visionaries Digicel and Global Mobile to solidify our international leadership role.”

The Sprint SmartView Connection Manager enables users to create a fast connection for their devices on Sprint 3G or 4G networks, as well as on compatible networks abroad.

Users would need at Mobile Broadband Device (Sprint 3G/4G USB Modem 250U by Sierra Wireless or Sprint 3G/4G U600 USB Modem) so as to access the said networks for mobile downloads, video chat capabilities and for web browsing.

Sprint 4G is currently available in a number of 68 markets around the United States, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City and Washington, D.C. More markets should receive the service starting with this month.
