The best selling Android smartphone in United States in Q2, the HTC EVO 4G has just received a maintenance software update.

According to Sprint, the update will be released in stages to EVO 4G owners over the next one or two weeks weeks.

This means that those who search for the update manually and do not find it should check back later until they receive a message that an update is available.

However, the carrier also states that users may automatically receive the update, in which case no manual download will be required.

The new update changes the firmware version to 4.53.651.1 and brings the following enhancements and fixes:

- Integrated voice recognition accuracy with voice search and voice-to-text; - Image size issue with contact transfer over Bluetooth; - Images cut off in Picasa; - Group contacts not in alphabetical order; - Out of memory, Unable to send SMS.

Although the update promises to solve some of the problems reported by HTC EVO 4G users in the past, it appears that some issues are still there.

In this regard, those who update should note that this will not totally fix the icon disappearing problem when restarting or the HTC Sense reloading.

In addition, the Bluetooth authorization issues when connecting to a car stereo has yet to be corrected, as well.

Sprint is aware of the problems recently reported but cannot give any positive answers regarding any futures update that could fix these issues.

Commenting on the problems reported, a Sprint official said: “I know the various issues everyone is experiencing are very frustrating and I'm sorry the updates to resolve these issues are taking longer than expected. I do know that most of the issues reported above are either being investigated or soon to be addressed in future software updates. As always though, with any issue you experience if you can post exact descriptions of the issue along with troubleshooting you've performed and any possible information we could pass long that could help is always appreciated.”
