14 DAY TRIAL // US mobile operator Sprint announced the addition of Katana Eclipse X from SANYO to its mobile phone lineup. Available in two colors, Nightlife Black and Hypnotic Pink, the handset can be purchased for $99.99 with a two-year subscriber agreement and a $50 mail-in rebate.
A successor of the original Katana Eclipse launched in August, Katana Eclipse X offers all the features of its predecessor - including the illumination capability which allows lighting effects to be assigned to specific contacts, alerts and messages - and adds a new interface called One Click for quickly accessing the phone's most used features.
Awarded “Best Overall Product of CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2008”, the One Click interface, similar in functionality to the classic speed dial, saves users’ time by allowing them to customize their home screen with shortcuts to the most used phone features and content such as text messaging, email, favorite websites, call log, Google Search, as well as services operated by Sprint, including: Sprint Navigation, Sprint Music Store, Sprint TV, Sprint Radio. For example, by placing Google on the home screen, users can search the Internet and access other Google services in a single step, or, by placing Internet shortcuts, handset owners can quickly access their favorite websites directly from the home screen. When users select a tile on the home screen, they are showed relevant information related to the feature.
Katana Eclipse X comes in a clamshell form factor and has a 2.0 inch TFT internal display capable of a resolution of 176x220 pixels, and a 1.0 inch external display. Some of the phone's features include built-in MP3 player with external music navigation controls, 1.3 MP camera with 12x digital zoom and video camcorder, Bluetooth.
Besides the Katana Eclipse X, Sprint has rolled out One Click on several new handsets including the LG Lotus, Samsung Rant and Samsung Highnote.
