Major carrier Sprint has just announced Android 5.0 Lollipop is now being rolled out for LG G3. The update is now delivered OTA (over the air) in stages, so it might take a while until it reaches all G3 units.

The G3 is one of the first LG smartphones to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop and Sprint is among the first carriers to offer the upgrade to its customers.

The update brings quite a lot of improvements, including Material Design for smoother animation, multicolored themes and 3D views. Also, the official changelog mentions more efficient battery use, but that remains to be seen.

Many Lollipop users have been complaining of battery consumption after upgrading to Android 5.0, but that also depends on the device. However, Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring additional options that may lead to lower battery consumption.

New Lock Screen features, enhanced Messaging and Android TV support

The next important improvement added in Lollipop is Android TV support. Notifications on the lock screen will be added too, as well as customizable options with prioritized notifications for events, reminders, messages and calls.

With the updated Lock Screen features, users will be allowed to quickly access notifications and active apps. Enhanced low vision and color-blind capabilities for added Accessibility are also among the changes brought in by Lollipop.

LG G3 owners at Sprint can expect enhanced Messaging with Google Hangouts support for SMS and MMS and a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons. The update will also deliver upgraded Google Mobile Service apps automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.

Last but not least, integrated location menu will enable users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.

According to Sprint, the update is now being pushed to LG G3, so check your smartphone for Android 5.0 Lollipop now.
