This might not be seen as a proper launch, but the Motorola i886 fact sheet was already published on Sprint's website, following the recent announcement regarding this phone's landing on the wireless carrier's iDEN network in the not too far future.

The new device was announced as the first handset with a side-sliding full QWERTY keyboard and Nextel Direct Connect. We should also note that the new device comes with an alphanumeric keyboard too, and with an interface that resembles Android.

The new device was built to meet Military specification 810G requirements, and can withstand dust, shock, vibration, low and high temperature, low pressure and solar radiation, Sprint notes on its website.

Moreover, the new device comes with full support for Nextel Direct Connect features, including Direct Send, Direct Talk, Group Connect and Next Mai, the wireless carrier announced.

Some of the main features of the new mobile phone include:

- Direct Connect for instant, one-to-one push-to-talk communication nationwide with any other Nextel Direct Connect subscriber - International Direct Connect lets you instantly connect from the United States to users in other eligible countries, including Canada and Mexico, and lets you make and receive push-to-talk calls while travelling in those countries - Direct Talk offers a reliable backup all-digital, off-network, push-to-talk service that works anywhere, anytime between compatible phones for short-range communications (range will vary based on terrain and conditions and in-building performance) - Rugged design meets Military specification 810G requirements for dust, shock, vibration, low and high temperature, low pressure and solar radiation - Instantly send and receive SMS text messages across the room or across the country - Send or receive Multimedia Messages (either audio, images, text, or all three in the same message) to or from email addresses and other capable users

The new device would also offer access to messaging features like SMS or MMS, as well as to email, including Exchange ActiveSync, POP3 and IMAP. The full QWERTY keyboard would prove a great feature when chatting with friends this way.

The specifications list of Motorola i886 also shows a 2.0-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities, built-in MP3 player, GPS Navigation, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, as well as a 2.2-inch 65K TFT (240 x 320 pixels) display.

The phone packs a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (a 2GB card included in the package), and a 1380 mAh Lithium-ion battery, measures 4.58 x 2.01x 0.73 inches and weighs in at 4.98 ounces (141.2 grams).
