Wireless carrier Sprint announced today the launch of its 4G services in new markets around the country, including Chicago; Dallas-Ft. Worth; the Charlotte area; Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary (the Triangle); and the Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point, N.C. (the Piedmont Triad region). According to the operator, the launch of its services in these areas will enable it to offer impressive speeds to its users, based on the performance levels the 4G WiMAX network can deliver.

According to Sprint, the new deployments will enable users to enjoy faster download speeds, as well as streaming video, fast web browsing, and others more, whether they are at home or on the go, at the office or in coffee shops. The aforementioned areas are among the first in the country to enjoy access to 4G services from Sprint, which are delivered over Clearwire's WiMAX network.

“Sprint continues to lead the charge in rolling out wireless 4G in cities across America and the momentum continues to build,” said Todd Rowley, vice president of Sprint 4G. “Our aggressive expansion of Sprint 4G will include many new devices and capabilities that create increased performance and productivity while enhancing personal lifestyles on the go.”

The first 4G services were delivered in Baltimore in September 2008, and their reach has been expanded over the country in markets like Atlanta, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Portland, as well as Abilene, Texas; Amarillo, Texas; Bellingham, Wash.; Boise, Idaho; Corpus Christi, Texas; Killeen-Temple, Texas; Lubbock, Texas; Midland-Odessa, Texas; Milledgeville, Ga.; Waco, Texas and Wichita Falls, Texas. Other areas are also expected to see the services available before the end of the ongoing year, including Honolulu; Maui, Hawaii; Salem, Oregon; and Seattle.

Sprint's customers in all of these areas can now enjoy the WiMAX-based services through the 3G/4G USB Modem U300, the first device that a carrier offers to users with both 3G and 4G connectivity options. Other 4G-capable devices are also planned to surface in Sprint's offering in 2009 and 2010, such as single-mode 4G data card, embedded laptops, and a 4G phone, the carrier added.
