Major carrier Sprint has just announced that the next major software upgrade for HTC EVO 3D and HTC EVO Design, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will arrive in early August.

Previously slated for a June/July release, the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the EVO 3D has been pushed back a few weeks due to unknown reasons. According to Sprint’s statement, the exact dates for the release of the updates will be unveiled soon.

Unfortunately for Sprint customers, the carrier delayed the Android 4.0 ICS for both EVO family smartphones, even though both are now available for purchase from Virgin Mobile USA and Boost Mobile with Ice Cream Sandwich onboard.

All in all, once Sprint starts pushing the update HTC EVO 3D and EVO Design owners should receive notifications on their devices, otherwise they can manually check for the update as soon the carrier confirms the rollout.

With Android 4.0 ICS, Sprint customers who own the EVO 3D or the EVO Design will be able to take advantage of a refined, evolved user interface that is simple and more useful.

The update will bring lots of new features and improvements, such as Face Unlock, a facial recognition technology that allows users to unlock their phone with a smile, redesigned Gmail application that lets users swipe between conversations and search for emails without a data connection, and more.

The camera application has been redesigned as well, so expect new features to be available, including Panorama, Vignette, Depth of Field, Vintage and Posterize.

The Android 4.0 ICS upgrade also adds Google+ integration, which allows users to hangout and video chat with up to 10 friends using the phone’s front-facing camera.

The virtual keyboard has been improved as well, so users will now be able to type more accurately. It also features enhanced copy and paste support and an inline spell checker. Stay tuned for more info on the subject.
