Sprint has managed to reach an important milestone with its network, as its Sprint Direct Connect push-to-talk service has over one million users at the moment.

The service was launched roughly a year ago, in an attempt to provide users with leading push–to-talk capabilities, while also enabling them to take advantage of broadband data capabilities on rugged and reliable handsets.

Sprint Direct Connect now offers far better coverage around the country, along with other industry-leading features, such as instant call set up time on domestic push-to-talk calls.

Moreover, the service offers international coverage, courtesy of agreements with wireless carriers in Latin American countries, and can be enjoyed on rugged, military spec handsets.

“A million customers in less than a year is an important achievement and reflects well on the permanence of push to talk as a communications solution,” said Paget Alves, chief sales officer at Sprint.

“Sprint Direct Connect has clearly met the increasing demand for faster data speeds, better and broader coverage, and useful applications on push-to-talk devices.”

With Sprint’s Direct Connect, users can take advantage of a range of push-to-talk services that enable them to get more done. Some of these features are also available for groups of users, making the services even more appealing to businesses.

All these services are available with just the push of a button, Sprint notes. Some of them include:

- Guaranteed Talk Permit - Call Alert with Text – Send an audio alert with an optional text message to let another Direct Connect subscriber know you are trying to reach them, and why. - Group Connect – Communicate with up to 20 other Sprint Direct Connect subscribers all at once – nationwide, at the push of one button. - TeamDC - NextMail - Availability Notification - One-Touch Direct Connect – Allows quick access to multiple Direct Connect options.

There is also the Direct Connect feature, with instant, one-to-one push-to-talk calling nationwide with any other user that has a Direct Connect subscription. Not to mention that this core push-to-talk feature also offers interoperability across Sprint and Nextel network platforms.
