Although we thought that Sprint would announce the HTC EVO One today, it looks like the carrier decided to go with another name for the next-generation EVO family coming on its airwaves.

Dubbed HTC EVO 4G LTE, the new Android 4.0 ICS smartphone launched by Sprint will be available in Q2 2012. According to Sprint, customers will be able to pre-order the smartphone beginning May 7, for as low as $199.99 with a new two-year agreement.

No word on the phone's suggested retail price yet, but the carrier mentioned it would announce the availability close to launch.

As expected, HTC EVO 4G LTE is the North-American version of the HTC One X, also known as One XL. This one is equipped with a dual-core processor and features LTE support, whilst the One X comes with a quad-core CPU and lacks LTE support.

Obviously, the smartphone is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, integrated with HTC Sense 4 UI.

The phone boasts a hyper-vibrant 4.7-inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) display, HD voice capabilities, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. The phone lacks microSD card slot for memory expansion.

In addition, HTC EVO 4G LTE sports a large 2000 mAh embedded battery and dual-cameras (8-megapixel rear-facing and 1.3-megapixel front-facing), as well as Corning Gorilla Glass coating for display and Beats Audio.

According to Sprint, this is the carrier's first device with HTC’s Authentic Sound experience integrating Beats Audio, allowing users to listen to music “the way the artist intended with unique audio tuning that delivers thundering bass, soaring midrange and crisp highs.”

Once again, we are partnering with HTC to deliver the benchmark Android device for the year with the next generation of our award-winning EVO brand. We know our customers will appreciate the focus on audio and voice quality with EVO 4G LTE, including the addition of Beats Audio and HD Voice capability,” said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse.
