The environment is sacred, should be treated as such

We recently spoke about how one church in the US was to start lecturing about sustainability, and a few days later we also commented on the news that several religious leaders were to get involved in Africa's anti-poaching battle.

Therefore, we now consider it worthwhile to also mention the Vatican's views on environmental protection.

Although odds are that quite a lot of people are still oblivious to this particular piece of information, the fact remains that, in the eyes of the Vatican, pollution is a sin and therefore all proper Christians must do their best in limiting its effects on the natural world.

More precisely, back in 2008, when this issue first came to the public's attention, the Vatican told its followers that, together with genetic manipulation, pollution is one of the deadliest modern sins.

It may be a while before, “Thou shall not pollute the Earth” will be listed as yet another commandment, but this view on environmental protection can at least be regarded as “food for thought” and given due consideration from this standpoint.
