Spotify is continuing its expansion. After only being available in a few countries for several years, it is now moving into new territories at a much faster pace. The latest addition is Austria, where Spotify is now available with the regular subscription options.

"We’ve been busy translating Spotify into German. So now we can say hallo to our new friends from Austria," Spotify announced.

"Yes, today sees Austria become the tenth member of the Spotify family. Our Austrian friends can choose from three great Spotify services - from absolutely free to paid subscriptions," it said.

The turning point has been the US launch. Spotify has been working towards this for a couple of years, negotiating a deal that would allow it to offer a free service.

Finally, the breakthrough came last summer, though after some changes to the free version in particular.

A bit later on though, the big Facebook integration urged Spotify to change the free version yet again, making it more appealing but limiting it to six months. But Spotify seems to have settled on the versions of its service it wants to offer.

The touted Free option comes with six months of access to the entire Spotify catalog and unlimited free streaming, with ads. After six months, users are limited to just 10 hours of free listening per month, so the free version is more of a long trial period.

If you decide you need unlimited listening and you're tired of the ads, Spotify Unlimited offers just that for €4.99 in Austria, that's $6.84. Spotify Unlimited is $4.99 (€3.64) in the US.

Finally, if mobile apps or listening on your internet-connected TV is important to you, there is Spotify Premium which comes with everything Spotify has to offer. Premium is €9.99 in Austria, $13.69. The same option is $9.99 (€7.28) in the US.
