And a bit new info regarding the first stage

One of the most anticipated PC games of the year, Spore, is slowly entering the marketing hype and makes us extremely happy. This means that, from time to time, we'll receive new screenshots, trailers, more exciting details and so on. Not to mention the fact that we'll also get a free Spore Creature Creator this June to keep us busy until the game is released!

Back to the screenshots, because that's our story today. Electronic Arts has decided to release quite a few of them presenting the Cell Phase in Spore. It might be the result of some Photoshop sessions, or it might be actual gameplay (for real) - we don't know yet, but we truly hope that the latter is true, since these screens look extremely well and, if I am not completely crazy, much better than the previous Spore screens and videos we have seen.

Although we didn't receive too much new information regarding this initial spore phase, we found out that our organism will exist thanks to a meteor (something that will probably upset the more religious people a bit). Here are the full details released by the development team:

"Cell Phase is your introduction to the fundamentals of Spore. You play a simple organism which is dropped onto your planet by way of meteor. The stage takes place in a top-down 2-D environment and you can play as an herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore. You earn DNA and collect parts to improve your creature's abilities. Make your choices wisely - even as a lowly simple organism, your choices and actions will have long lasting effects. Avoid larger, carnivorous organisms while feeding on smaller organisms or algae - all while being tossed around in strong ocean currents. Eventually you will grow large enough to sprout legs and crawl out of the water and up onto land."
