14 DAY TRIAL // Security researchers from Kaspersky have been monitoring schemes that target those who want to attend this year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil. One of the most interesting sites they’ve spotted is fifabr.com.
This fraudulent website pops up in sponsored ads on Google when Brazilian users search for World Cup tickets. Fifabr.com purports to offer tickets for $70 (€52).
Other cybercriminals are sending out phishing emails that promise free tickets, cash and free travel to the World Cup. Victims of these schemes are instructed to enter their personal and financial details on a site.
Another shady website identified by experts advertises a free giveaway.
These particular schemes are designed to target Brazilian users. However, it’s likely that similar operations are being launched in other parts of the world as well. That’s why internauts are advised to book hotels and travels, and purchase tickets for the World Cup only from trusted websites.
