Sgt. Kimberly Walker was killed last February by her boyfriend, and her mother wanted to do something really special for her tomb. She bought six burial lots at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati and commissioned two huge headstones shaped like SpongeBob SquarePants.

Kimberly, her mother explains for WLWT, as the video above can confirm, was a huge fan of the cartoon character and had him plastered everywhere around the house, from her bed sheets to her shower curtain.

It felt fitting that she got a SpongeBob headstone as well. The other one was for her sister, who thinks it was the most amazing tribute to Kimberly they could have come up with, especially since both SpongeBobs are wearing military uniforms.

The out of the ordinary headstones cost the family a whopping $26,000 (€19,015) and were commissioned only after an official for the Cemetery was briefed about them. They lasted in place only a few hours, as the Cemetery received complaints and ordered to have them removed because they were not appropriate.

In a statement, the Cemetery says it’s working with the family to come up with replacements that would please both parties. The family won’t pay a dime, the statement adds.
