Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia high definition trilogies are finally coming to retail stores in the USA, as Ubisoft, their publisher, has confirmed a release date for both of them.

High definition collections of older games are becoming the newest fad in the gaming industry, with publishers trying to rekindle the passion for classic titles on current generation platforms.

Ubisoft is the latest company to do so, as it has just announced that it will be launching HD trilogies of two of its most popular franchises, Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

Older Prince of Persia titles remastered in high definition were already released on Blu-ray in Europe and, through the PlayStation Store, as downloadable titles in North America, but it seems that Ubisoft has finally decided to also release the three games on a single Blu-ray in the Land of the Free.

The titles included in the Prince of Persia trilogy are the Sands of Time, Warrior Within and the Two Thrones, all playable in 720p resolution and stereoscopic 3D.

The Splinter Cell Trilogy, as confirmed a few months ago, will include the original Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory, all remastered and filled with new features for the PlayStation 3.

Both trilogies were rumored for quite some time, but it seems that Ubisoft will release the two collections on separate Blu-ray discs on March 22, in the USA, each retailing for $39.99.

In the meantime, if you don't fancy the wait, you can still get the three high definition Prince of Persia games from the PlayStation Store.

PlayStation 3 owners should also get ready for two more remastered collections that will appear this year, the Team Ico one, consisting of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, as well as a Tomb Raider trilogy, consisting of Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary and the more recent Tomb Raider: Underworld.
