In the United Kingdom

Finally, the tyranny of Just Dance has been vanquished, when it comes to the chart tracking videogame sales in the United Kingdom. Splinter Cell: Conviction, the latest title from Ubisoft starring Sam Fisher, is sitting in number one in its first week on sale, showing that stealth kills and stalking still have an audience despite the significant gap between the launch of Double Agent and the current Conviction.

In spite of the stealth blow from the rogue agent, Just Dance only slipped one place to second, which means Ubisoft has quite a good week on the island nation. Third place in the chart has gone to Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, a disk-based package from Rockstar combining The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost & Damned, might be the last we see of the very successful franchise for some time, until the developers start talking about GTA V.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 from DICE and Electronic Arts has seen a two-place drop from second to fourth, while Wii Fit Plus managed to jump up one place to reach fifth. Just Cause 2 from Eidos, now a Square Enix brand, lost three places as the appeal of Rico’ base jumping and tethering himself to cars dwindles, Wii Sports Resort coming in at number seven, two places lower than during the previous week. Pokemon Soul Silver is the only of the remake pair remaining in the top ten, at number eight.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward and Activision has seen the biggest drop in the first ten positions of the chart, going down to nine from four as the effects of the Stimulus Package begin to disappear, while FIFA 10 from EA Sports succeeded in reentering the top ten in last place. Meanwhile, New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii dropped out.
