The present isn't very important for the company

Each month the NPD group shares with us its sales charts, which track how hardware and software moves across the territory of the United States of America. Even though these charts make some companies look good while others bad, you can be sure that their PR departments will certainly spin these numbers to make it look like the corporations are doing alright.

Without a doubt, Sony's PR department is one of the most hardworking, as each month the Japanese manufacturer comes in last in terms of hardware and software sales. Luckily, March brought an interesting opportunity for the PR people at Sony Computer Entertainment America, which focused on the fact that the PS3 had three top-selling titles featured in the software charts from the NPD group, in the form of Resident Evil 5, Killzone 2 and MLB 09: The Show.

But even though things are going well in terms of games, SCEA's Patrick Seybold revealed that the future was looking even better for his company: “The best part of what PlayStation has to offer this year is a relentless string of AAA games. We've lined up mass entertainment appeal from the hard core gamer who can't wait to get their hands on a game like MAG, the industry's first 256-player shooter, to the casual gamer who wants to take their RockBand skills on the road via the PSP.”

He also tackled the recent price cut for the PlayStation 2, mentioning that it would bring more momentum in sales for the whole brand. “We're also seeing exciting preliminary numbers for PlayStation 2 with the recent price cut and we couldn't be more pleased with the continued entertainment value and gameplay the platform provides even in its ninth year. We've got a confident plan ahead and have many cards yet to deal, so consumers can rest assured there's a lot to look forward to from PlayStation this new fiscal year.”

All in all, even though things aren't very good for Sony, the company has great expectations from the future, with the summer and pre-holiday season being filled with titles from the company that will hopefully move more PlayStation 3 and PSP consoles.
