14 DAY TRIAL // Two days before her 29th birthday and only hours before taking to the Cannes Film Festival to speak about her latest film as icon Jane Birkin, British actress Lucy Gordon was found dead in her Paris apartment, after her boyfriend alerted the police, the Daily Mail informs. All leads are now pointing to suicide, although her boyfriend, whose identity has not been revealed to the media, has also been held all night for questioning, police representatives tell the same publication.
Gordon, though not yet a household name, was a relatively famous actress for the potential she had, as well as a very successful model. Her father says in a press statement she had wanted to be an actress ever since she was two, but was also happy with her modeling contracts, which allowed her to stay in school – after graduating from the Oxford High School, Gordon was studying for her A-levels in history, biology and French.
Since her professional career was flourishing, it is believed she might have killed herself for personal reasons. Sources from the police say neighbors believe she was depressed after one of her friends in Britain had also committed suicide, but some also say they had heard Lucy and her boyfriend argue bitterly the night before. The boyfriend, on his part, has reportedly told the police he found her hanging when he woke up on Wednesday morning, but that he knew no reason why she would do such a desperate act.
“Her death has come completely out of the blue and the entire family is devastated. Everything about how she died is just speculation at the minute, and we want to concentrate on paying tribute to our daughter. We have loved her so much throughout her life. She was the light of mine, her mum’s, and her sister’s lives. Lucy was a lovely, generous and unselfish person who always gave so much thought to other people and put them before herself.” Mr. Gordon says in a statement, as quoted by the British publication.
Police officers summoned at the scene by the boyfriend describe what they found in the posh Paris apartment as “horrific.” As of now, the theory that seems most likely is suicide, says the Mail, but an autopsy will also be performed.
